Topalbano is Disney’s parody of the famous Inspector Montalbano, the iconic protagonist of Andrea Camilleri’s detective novels. This wonderful illustration by Paolo Mottura — who also created a story and two covers featuring the character — shows Topalbano in the midst of one of his investigations, side by side with Mickey Mouse.
The thrill of adding this masterpiece to my collection comes not only from the beauty of the artwork, nor simply from being Sicilian and a lifelong fan of Montalbano’s stories, but also because the scene takes place on a beach — most likely in Vigata. In other words… right at home!

About Paolo Mottura
Paolo Mottura has drawn for the Italian Disney publisher Mondadori since 1989. He has illustrated several stories with 'Topolino', 'Minnie & Co.' and 'Paperinik'. He has also drawn for the weeklies Sole 24 Ore and La Stampa. He also does illustration work for the Ricordi Arti Grafiche (3D character design), Clementoni (jigsaw puzzles), La Ferrero (character design and storyboard) and the Disney books (illustrations).
