Le dos du projet avec un dessin de Spider-Man et la couverture originale ASM #151 pour comparaison
Plusieurs éléments m'ont littéralement forcé à faire cette acquisition ;
- C'est un beau projet déjà bien abouti pour du comics, ce qui est difficile à trouver
- La couverture finale est dans mon top 10 des compositions les plus réussies en ASM Bronze Age
- La couv. est un rappel de la fameuse #33 de Ditko, une des histoires les plus marquantes
- Le projet a aussi un intérêt historique car cela démontre que Kane est a créditer en très grande partie alors qu'il n'est pas mentionné en édition
- Last but not least je n'avais pas $150k pour l'original!
Le descriptif de Heritage Auction est le suivant concernant cette œuvre :
"..This one was finished by John Romita, Sr., who many attribute the cover to completely; however, this prelim by Gil Kane should put that theory to bed permanently. The finished cover art sold through Heritage recently for over $150,000.00. This Gil Kane prelim piece is stunning. It shows that his prelim work is more complete and better composed than many other artists' finished pieces... and if this great marker over graphite piece were not enough, there is also a bonus Gil Kane marker sketch of Spidey on the backside. Wow! A two-fer and a bit of Marvel history all in one piece of great art.."
La couverture finale sera faite par Gil Kane avec finition par John Romita, Sr selon le descriptif de Heritage Auction lors de la vente de la couv originale ASM#151 ;
".. This "Amazing" cover has been described as simply one of the best Spider-Man covers ever created. It has a nice bit of history as well, as it is an homage to the iconic cover of Amazing Spider-Man #33 by the incredible Steve Ditko. Most sources list the art as by John Romita, Senior. However, this original art is signed at the bottom by both Gil Kane and Romita Sr. Furthermore, on the backside, in Romita Sr.'s own handwriting it reads "Gil Kane + John Romita" and is signed by JRSR again. Given the overall "Romita-ness" of it, our best guess is that Gil Kane supplied the breakdown and Romita provided the finished art.."

A propos de Gil Kane
Gil Kane alias Eli Katz, est un dessinateur de comics dont la carrière s'est étalée des années 1940 aux années 1990 et qui a travaillé sous le nom de Gil Kane et à certaines occasions de Scott Edwards. Kane a co-créé les versions modernes des super-héros Green Lantern et Atom pour DC Comics, et a co-créé Iron Fist avec Roy Thomas pour Marvel Comics.
