La Nuit est certainement l'oeuvre la plus personnelle de Philippe Druillet, terminée après la mort de sa première épouse, Nicole. Bien qu'il soit cofondateur de Métal Hurlant en 1974 avec Moebius et Farkas, c'est dans le mensuel Rock & Folk qu'il commence à publier cet album en 1976.
