Rudolph Dirks

Dès 1894, il propose ses dessins aux magazines Judge et Life. Son frère aîné, Gus Dirks, et lui, s'installent à New York et ont du travail en tant que dessinateurs ; En 1897, il travaille pour le New York Journal. Le rédacteur en chef, Rudolph Edgar Block, lui demande de créer un strip et Dirks lui amène la série The Katzenjammer Kids (en français, d'abord Les Méfaits des petits Chaperché, puis Pim, Pam et Poum), inspirée de la fameuse Bildergeschichte (histoire en images) Max und Moritz de l'artiste et poète allemand Wilhelm Busch.
