Beautiful original Don Rosa Cover from his acclaimed series "The Life and Times of $crooge McDuck". This is actually the "US-version" that was first published as the cover to Uncle Scrooge #286 ((April)June 1994), whereas the "European version" was first published around the same time in Germany (April 1994). The Heritage description seems to be wrong in presuming that the European Cover was published earlier and the US-cover merely an adaptation. I was probably rather an alternate version as Don only ommitted the pipe in the "European version". According to the INDUCKS site the "US-version" has been published at least 72 times in 15 countries, whereas the "European version" has "only" been reprinted 43 times in 14 countries...

This is what Heritage had to say:
Don Rosa Uncle Scrooge #286 Cover Original Art (Gladstone, 1994). The story "The Master of the Mississippi" is the second of the original 12 chapters in the series The Life and Times of Scrooge McDuck. This exciting cover, featuring a young Scrooge McDuck and his Uncle Pothole being pursued down the Mississippi by the Beagle Boys, is adapted from Rosa's earlier European cover. One of most obvious differences is Uncle Pothole's corncob pipe, which was not included in the European cover. Eagle-eyed collectors will notice the hidden dedication pattern in Uncle Pothole's pipe, which reads "D.U.C.K."
